Tudor Meets Contemporary with New Birmingham Custom Home March 17th, 2021 | by Jeremy Wright | Posted in Custom Homes, Design, News Modern farmhouses may have our heart, but the sophisticated feel of this classic, contemporary Tudor home is pretty amazing, too. The homeowners of this beautiful custom Birmingham home were ready to create a stunning space that offered crisp, clean lines and a bright and airy feel. Doing what J. Wright Building Company does best, our team went to work to bring these visions to life with a home that captures our client’s dreams. The home’s exterior boasts a combination of ivory painted brick and siding to create a distinctive texture reminiscent of the Tudor style. To create contrast, we incorporated black details in the form of roofing and window trim, as well as exterior gutters that run vertically down the front of the home. These darker details enhance the brightness of the home’s painted exterior to create a crisp curb appeal that invites homeowners up the stone steps and through the modern glass entryway. Past the foyer entry and the elegant charcoal painted dining room featuring coffered ceilings and a breathtaking picture window, the home opens up to a stunning vaulted living room highlighted by large wooden beams that add a rustic contrast to the bright white living space. A beautiful white brick fireplace sits on one side of the room to create the perfect space for entertaining, while two sets of black trimmed glass doors extend the living space outdoors to an enclosed deck for even more gathering opportunities. Light fills the room from oversized windows above the back doors and a black iron ring chandelier centers the room overhead. The home’s crisp, contemporary design continues in the kitchen, where bright white cabinets surround the room along with a light gray subway tile backsplash. Several cabinets also feature glass-front doors for easy access and display purposes. Stainless steel appliances fit right into the cabinet space, along with the beautiful farmhouse sink, and the built-in pot filler and beautiful vent hood over the Wolf range. In the center of the room, an oversized charcoal island provides added counterspace for cooking family meals, as well as ample storage space and seating for dining. Two beautiful glass light fixtures hang overhead to add an elegant touch to the kitchen space. The kitchen features extend into the butler’s pantry, which connects the kitchen to the dining room. The vaulted ceilings of the main living area find their way into the owner’s suite, where rustic wooden beams elevate and open up the room with the help of large windows. To the side of the room, the ensuite bath provides a spa-like feel with its cool toned hexagon tile flooring and marble tiled walk-in shower with bench seating. Dual vanity sinks are separated by a luxurious freestanding soaking tub, which is set perfectly underneath a picturesque window. Large built-in bathroom shelving offers plenty of space for storing away towels and other essential toiletries, while a charcoal sliding barn door opens to an enormous walk-in closet filled with custom-built shelving and storage. Other notable details we love throughout this new Birmingham custom home include the subtle yet standout wainscoting in staircase walls, the interesting lighting found throughout the home, and the loft space overlooking the open main living area below. No matter your custom home vision, our team at J. Wright Building Company has the knowledge and expertise to bring it to life.
